Time Zone Abbreviations vs IANA Time Zones
Time zone abbreviations are convenient for displaying time, but they are not always unique. IANA time zone identifiers such as America/New_York, Europe/London, and Asia/Tokyo identify geographic time zones more precisely and can account for time zone rule changes.
